This early twentieth century Japanese Kharita™ of China hints of the rising influence and presence of japan overall following the Treaty of Shimonoseki signed between the Japanese and Chinese at the end of the first Sino-Japanese war in 1895. The map is dated Meiji 42 (1909), the year that the International Opium Commission convened in Shanghai. There is an inset map of the world at lower right.
